Popular Night Watch scheme extended

June 15, 2007 12:00 AM

The city council's popular weekend Night Watch noise service is being extended to run seven nights week.

The Lib Dem run city council launched the service two years ago and since then Night Watch has investigated thousands of complaints.

The council deals with most noisy neighbours by way of a warning but more serious action is taken against repeat offences or more severe noise problems - risking a £110 fixed penalty fine.

In the last year the team has dealt with more than 1,500 calls and over 85% were responded to in less than 30 minutes.

Councillor Anita Lower, executive member for modernisation, transformation and regulation, says: "Noise is an issue that the Lib Dem council takes very seriously.

"The Night Watch service has proven to be an extremely effective way of dealing with noisy neighbours and I know many local people will be pleased it is now running seven nights a week."

Anyone wishing to report a noise problem, night or day, should telephone 101.
