NEWS IN BRIEF FROM ACROSS THE WARD

February 17, 2008 12:00 AM

Several roads and pavements across the ward have been resurfaced, Coun Mike Lynch reports.

On Claverdon Street the path has been done, the road on Callerton Road has been resurfaced and on Whitehall Road both path and road have been resurfaced.

Mike has also asked if the scheme to resurface The Paddock in Walbottle Village can be brought forward to the next financial year.

Meanwhile schemes for Hexham Road, Broomyhill Road and Townfield Gardens are on hold until the utility firms finish their works.

As part of the Lib Dem manifesto commitment for the free sport use of sporting facilities for children in Newcastle, there is now a range of free activities on offer at Newburn Activity Centre (tel 264 0014) or the Outer West Pool at Denton (tel 277 7980).

Meanwhile, a new community housing office has opened in Throckley.

The office in Broomyhill Road replaces the former housing office in Newburn Village and offers the same facilities as before.

It is open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 12.30pm.

Mike says: "I am pleased this new office has opened. This is an important local facility for tenants where they can get help and advice on housing matters."
