Newcastle Continues to Fall Down the Council Tax League Table

April 3, 2008 9:55 PM

Newcastle's Council Tax has fallen to 85th highest in the country, reflecting the Lib Dems' promise to keep Council Tax rises below inflation.

Holding down Council Tax rises has also led to a saving for every Council Tax payer in Newcastle. For example, a Band D Council Tax payer in Newcastle has saved £254.27 since 2004 compared to the average Council Tax rise across the country.

At the same time, the independent Audit Commission has said that Newcastle's priority services are "all improving well" and residents' satisfaction with services is one of the highest in the country.

In contrast, when Labour ran Newcastle, Council Tax was one of the highest in the country and many services performed poorly.
