NEWS IN BRIEF FROM ACROSS DENTON WARD

December 22, 2008 12:01 AM

:: SCHOOL VISITS FOR LOCAL DEMOCRACY WEEK

The Denton Lib Dem Team visited schools in the ward as part of Local Democracy Week.

The councillors told the pupils what they did and the youngsters asked lots of questions.

Councillor Graham Middleton says: "It was great to visit the schools and listen to the questions from pupils. It just goes to show what great young people we have in Denton Ward and they are a credit to their parents and teachers."

:: COUNCIL TO TAKE OVER PARKING ENFORCEMENT

Newcastle City Council is to take over parking enforcement from the police in February.

It means that Civil Enforcement Officers will be able to issue tickets to motorists parked illegally.

Councillor Sharon Middleton explains: "Residents across Denton Ward may notice that extra yellow lines have been installed locally.

If any resident feels lines have been installed outside their home or in the wrong place, then please contact me.

"The new system aims to tackle indiscriminate parking and should improve congestion."

:: NEWS ROUNDUP

New signs have been installed on Hillhead Road to remind motorists the speed limit is now 30mph.

Despite the national economic problems, the redevelopment of Dunblane Crescent is continuing - although a little more slowly than residents expected.

Police are warning Denton Ward residents about a gang of car thieves operating in the local area. They are targeting motorists who leave their keys in the ignition and the engine running.

The Rev Jonathan Goode has been installed as the new Vicar of the Church of the Holy Spirit. Welcome to Denton!
