Greg and Vince Cable at the Beavans developmentNewcastle Lib Dem parliamentary spokesman for Newcastle East Greg Stone has offered congratulations to Byker Bridge Housing Association for their successful conversion of the former Beavans department store on Shields Road to provide 30 affordable flats.

Greg visited the conversion of the well known former store with Lib Dem Shadow Chancellor Vince Cable earlier this year and has been a supporter of Byker Bridge's work for several years.

Greg said "This is a fantastic project which not only restores a well-known building and helps the regeneration of Shields Road, but also provides much needed housing in the East End. Byker Bridge does excellent work with people needing help and support with housing, training, and employment and I am delighted that 30 new homes will shortly become available for their first tenants in time for the building's 100th anniversary next year"
