Following a meeting with Northumbria police commanders for the east of the city today at Byker police station, Lib Dem parliamentary spokesman Greg Stone is hopeful that a deal will shortly be reached to create additional movable CCTV systems to monitor hotspots for crime, anti social behaviour, and environmental nuisances such as flytipping and grafitti for the six "Inner East" wards - Dene, North Heaton, South Heaton, North Jesmond, South Jesmond, and Ouseburn.
Greg said "I am pleased to be able to report encouraging progress on this campaign, which was instigated by Jesmond Lib Dem councillors Bob Walker and Catherine Pagan who have been calling for a movable CCTV system for the Osborne Road/Osborne Avenue area. It now looks likely that a solution has been found in the shape of a wider scheme covering the Inner East, involving the support of the local police and council, and we are hopeful that this can be implemented in the coming financial year.".
