A19 / A1058 junction consultation

Newcastle East residents who regularly use the A1058 Coast Road are advised that there will be a consultation event on Nov 27th and Nov 28th at the Cobalt Business Exchange (formerly Atmel), Cobalt Business Park, Cobalt Park Way, Newcastle upon Tyne NE28 9NZ - members of the public are welcome to attend the drop-in event.

This junction is a couple of miles outside Newcastle East's boundary but is a major congestion point in Tyneside's strategic road network. The upgrade of this junction to allow easier flow of traffic is overdue and without it, the benefit of new Tyne Tunnel improvements may not be felt if the logjam is not tackled at this junction which also serves the busy Cobalt / Silverlink business parks.

Lib Dem parliamentary spokesman Greg Stone said "This junction improvement scheme is very important for the east of Newcastle and North Tyneside and is closely linked to the second Tyne Tunnel project, and I'm well aware that this junction sees slow traffic movement at peak times. I am anxious to see this project move ahead after a long waiting period which has caused uncertainty over the funding. I know that a lot of residents in the east of the city use the Coast Road and the A19 as a route to work at Cobalt or south of the Tyne, and will want to see details and timetable for this upgrade work."
