Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman for Newcastle East Greg Stone is encouraging Newcastle residents to show support for North East servicemen and women who are returning from active duty overseas this week.

Civic parades will be held through the city centre this week for the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers on Wednesday (starting at 11.30 am from the Civic Centre Ceremonial Way) and for the Light Dragoons (formerly 15th/19th Kings Royal Hussars) on Friday (12.15pm). Following an inspection by the Lord Mayor at the Civic Centre a march-past will take place at the Monument.

Greg Stone said "I hope people will be able to take time out to show their support for our armed forces at these welcome home parades. The city should be busy with Christmas shoppers and office workers in their lunch hour so I hope that there will be a big turnout to show appreciation for the difficult job our forces are doing in a dangerous environment"
