Residents must have a say in Northumberland Road scheme

Lib Dem parliamentary spokesman for Newcastle East Greg Stone has responded to enquiries from residents of Northumberland Road in the city centre with regard to proposals to introduce a pedestrianised zone to complement the pedestrian route across the University of Northumbria campus.

Greg said "I am aware that a recent public meeting raised a number of practical considerations about access for residents of Brady & Martin Court and flats on Northumberland Road. Although I am not opposed to the principle of improving the public realm in this area to enhance the cross-campus pedestrian routes and the new swimming pool, it is important that the needs of the residents in this part of the city centre are not forgotten. I understand the council is seeking to address their concerns and a further meeting for residents and St James Church users is planned shortly."
