Denton Ward
Your local Liberal Democrat councillors work hard to support the residents of Denton Ward. Please contact us via the 'Contacts' page if you have any problem, query or suggestion.
You can also meet your Lib Dem councillors to raise your query in person, at our monthly surgeries. These are held in the Small Pool Community Room, Outer West Customer Service Centre, West Denton Shopping Centre, every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month, from 9.00am - 12noon (except between Christmas and New Year).

- LOCAL PRIMARY SCHOOL WINS NATIONAL ADVISORY ROLE
A local primary school has been selected for a top national role helping other schools to improve - alongside only 75 other schools around the country. Beech Hill Primary has been named a National Support School by the National College for Leadership of Schools and Children's Services. Head Nicola Nelson-Taylor was also named a National Leader in Education. The government-backed scheme sees Nicola and her staff supporting schools in challenging circumstances. Councillor Graham Middleton: "This is a tremendous honour for the school and shows what excellent work is being done by staff and students alike. My congratulations to everyone involved with the school." - DENTON WARD NEWS IN BRIEF
:: PROBLEMS AT 'THE MOUND' TO END Anti-social behaviour that has plagued an area of Chapel House will soon be a thing of the past. The Mound - an area of green open space at Barbondale Lonnen - has been the target for a number of young people. Hopefully this problem should now disappear because the area is going to become part of the new Knoplaw Primary School. The school wants to make much better use of the open area around its new buildings and the mound will be used by the school children. Councillor Graham Middleton said: "The Mound has caused a lot of grief for local residents and the ward councillors in the past. "This is a great idea by the school to take the area into the school's boundary. This should also improve the quality of life for people living in the area." :: NEW CAR PARK TO BE CREATED Work is expected to start soon to turn the disused tennis courts at Westerhope Park into a car park. This will improve road safety and get rid of the nuisance caused by cars using the park for bowling. This scheme is a much simpler and cheaper design and more affordable than the original plan. Councillor Sharon Middleton said: "This scheme will make life better for local residents and for users of the bowling club. "Once the car park is finished, the plan is to see what else we can do to improve the rest of the park." :: DENTON CHARTER PLAN The first-ever Neighbourhood Charter for Denton Ward is being drawn up. The aim of charter is to deliver the services residents want locally. This includes a bigger say over health, housing, employment, education and policing. - WORK STARTS ON NEW KNOPLAW PRIMARY SCHOOL
Work has started to build the new Knoplaw Primary School on Chapel House. Councillors recently attended a silver spade ceremony to mark the construction of the new building, which is expected to open in September 2010. Councillor Sharon Middleton said: "The demolition phase of the project was noisy and caused a lot of dust. "We checked with the planners to make sure that everything was being done to reduce this. "Now that the main building is going up, this problem shouldn't happen again, but we'll keep a close eye on the project." - DENTON INTERCHANGE SET FOR £1m SCHEME
A £1 million scheme is to be carried out early next year to improve the Denton interchange. Traffic signals will be installed on A69 and A1 exit slip roads and there will also be improved signs and road markings. The aim of the scheme is to improve traffic flow on the Denton interchange and make journeys for motorists travelling to and from the city centre at rush hour quicker. Pedestrian crossings will also be installed to make it easier for people to walk cross the interchange. It is expected there will be a 40% cut in accidents at the interchange. Councillor Peter Arnold said: "I am pleased the Highways Agency has agreed to fund this work. "This scheme will also make it easier for pedestrians, especially the disabled who find it difficult to use the underpass."
