LIB DEMS CONDEMN DRAIN COVER THIEVES

4.11.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 11th Sep 2008

The Lib Dems are urging Lemington residents to be extra vigilant after a spate of drain cover thefts.

Since the beginning of May, 89 drain covers have been stolen from Lemington, Westerhope, Denton and Throckley.

It's thought the drain covers have been stolen for their scrap.

Councillor Lawrence Hunter says: "The missing covers could pose a danger to members of the public and I would urge anyone that has any information about the thefts to contact the police.

"I am looking at whether plastic covers can be installed instead."
