LOCAL 20MPH SPEED LIMIT PLAN

5.25.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 14th Oct 2008

The city council is considering introducing legally enforceable 20mph zones in all residential estates across Newcastle.

This follows a review of the advisory 20mph 'Twenty's Plenty' scheme piloted in some residential areas.

Councillor David Down says: "Monitoring of traffic speeds has shown that the 'Twenty's Plenty' scheme marginally reduced traffic speeds.

"The council is now considering plans to introduce legally enforceable 20mph zones in all residential estates in the city.

"Further consultation will take place before a final decision is made."
