POST OFFICE RE-OPENS AFTER CLOSURE

1.13.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 7th Apr 2009

Lib Dem Parliamentary spokesman for Newcastle East Greg Stone is delighted that the Newton Road Post Office has now been reopened after months of closure.

A long campaign by your local Lib Dem councillors on behalf of High Heaton residents has paid off as the new post office and mini-market is now open for business.

We wish the new proprietors every success and hope that all local residents will make full use of the new facility to ensue this vital local service is sustained.

Greg Stone says: "Local post offices are a vital cornerstone of the community and I'm really pleased that the Newton Road post office has re-opened.

"However, it's ironic that the local Labour MP is now rushing to support the branch when he voted in favour of Labour's post office closure programme in Parliament."
