REGENERATING OUR HIGH STREET

8.23.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Sun 24th May 2009

Plans are being made to improve Gosforth High Street.

Local councillors in East Gosforth and West Gosforth wards are holding discussions with local community groups and business leaders for ideas on improving the High Street.

A plan of renewal has already started, which includes planting new trees, reducing street clutter, fixing roads and pavements and parking enforcement.

Councillor Mike Cookson explains: "Woolworth's closed in January and now the Northern Lights pub has shut.

"What we don't want to see is the High Street declining any further.

"We are starting with the small things first but are drawing up plans to ensure the long-term vitality and growth of the High Street."
