Greg backs Save Egypt Cottage campaign

6.25.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 22nd Jul 2009

Greg has been approached by the Save Egypt Cottage campaign group to seek his advice to try and save this historical pub and music venue.

Site owners Buccleuch Properties, who acquired the Tyne Tees site for redevelopment some years ago, are understood to be considering clearance of the site to avoid incurring business rates on the empty buildings, and it is feared this could impact upon the Egypt Cottage.

Greg said "I am investigating the situation in terms of planning and in terms of whether rate relief may be possible in this case. The Egypt Cottage is a very old and well loved part of local culture and is world-famous due to its legendary status as the green room for the Tube, where it was used by numerous rock legends. I am delighted to support the campaign."
