Greg lobbies Highways Agency for assurances on Coast Road junction

7.01.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 27th Jul 2009

Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman for Newcastle East Greg Stone has written to the Highways Agency seeking assurances that upgrades to the A19/A1058 Silverlink junction will go ahead.

Investment is needed at this junction to improve traffic flow to the new Tyne Tunnel, in order to ensure that the improvements resulting from the new tunnel are not lost by creating a new bottleneck at the Coast Road junction.

Greg said "Although just outside the constituency, this improvement programme will benefit Newcastle East in terms of improving traffic flow on the A19 and preventing knock-on problems on the Coast Road. This work needs to be planned now to be able to start by the time the new Tunnel is ready"
