High Heaton Library honour welcomed1.45.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 31st Jul 2009 Newcastle Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman for Newcastle East and councillor for North Heaton Greg Stone has welcomed the news that the new High Heaton community library has been named as a finalist in the Public Library Building Awards 2009. The new library opened last year and has proved to be a great success, with user numbers significantly increased and many individuals and groups making use of its new IT facilities and community room as well as its new lending stock. The impressive new City Library has also made the shortlist, marking the significant emphasis put on development of new libraries by the Lib Dem run city council administration. Greg said "The City Library has quite rightly been grabbing the headlines and has won deserved praise from within the library sector, but it is very nice to see High Heaton's local library make the shortlist for this national award as well. Users and staff at the new library are delighted with the new facility, which will shortly be joined at the Spinney by a new Childrens Centre".
