Benton Road blackspot to be tackled

6.20.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 31st Jul 2009

North Heaton Lib Dem councillor Greg Stone has successfully pressed for action by Newcastle City Council on the northbound carriageway of Benton Road, after a number of minor road traffic accidents caused by vehicles clipping parked cars.

New road markings are to be put in place indicating to traffic coming off the Coast Road roundabout that they should stay out of the left hand lane immediately following the crossing traffic lights, giving them more room to avoid parked cars.

Greg said "I hope this will improve the situation, following a number of scrapes and lost wing mirrors in recent weeks. We will continue to monitor traffic at this location to improve safety".
