LIB DEMS INVEST IN THE FUTURE

10.18.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 19th Oct 2009

The Lib Dem-run city council is transforming the way it works in order to save £20 million and protect front line services.

The transformation programme sees a huge change in the way the council operates by cutting management and administration jobs. This will make it more efficient and quicker to respond.

Councillor Joanne Park said: "Protecting front-line services is our top priority in making these changes and we're also committed to handling job reductions sensitively.

"As well as saving money, these changes will lead to real and important service improvements in some areas - not least in better supporting people who need care in their own homes to help them gain more independence.

"It will also help the council meet its promise to keep council tax increases at or below inflation, which we know is an important priority for residents."
