ATM skimming warning

10.55.00am GMT Thu 5th Nov 2009

North Heaton Lib Dem councillor Greg Stone has warned local residents to be alert after the Four Lane Ends post office's ATM cash machine was interfered with last week.

Police believe a "card skimming" device was used to capture cashcard details of customers. A similar incident believed to be linked occurred at an ATM at a newsagents on the Coast Road in Wallsend.

Greg said "It is well worth remaining vigilant when using cash machines to ensure that it has no signs of having been interfered with, in order to prevent data loss and identity fraud."
