FAWDON NEWS IN BRIEF9.27.00pm GMT Wed 6th Jan 2010 Resurfacing: The programme for resurfacing residential roads continues. During the autumn the following streets have been resurfaced - Warrington Road, King George Road, Charles Avenue and Renwick Avenue in Fawdon; Kinross Drive, Colgrove Way and Winton Way in North Kenton and Aln Walk in Little Grange. Kingston Park Road: The fencing along Kingston Park Road is now complete, and adjoining areas will have to be tackled to avoid overspill parking. Goodbye Karl: Karl Hansen, long-serving secretary of Red House Farm Residents Association, is moving out of the area. We thank him for his hard work on behalf of local residents. Ward Committee: Your ward committee met at the end of November at Coxlodge Community Association. The meeting discussed health improvement programmes for local residents. St Clements Court Residents Association was given a grant towards Christmas festivities for residents, and a grant was offered to Mountfield Parents, Teachers and Residents Association towards activities for the children. 20 mph limits: After successful trials of advisory 20mph speed limits on a number of roads, including Edgefield Avenue, there will now be a city-wide pro-gramme for introducing mandatory 20mph limits on most neighbourhood streets. The programme will be rolled out over the next two to three years. New Kenton cafe - give it a try! Staffed and run by eight adults with a disability, a new cafe has opened inside Kenton Sports Centre. The cafe serves freshly made sandwiches and snacks on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11.30am until 1.30pm. If it's successful it will open for more weekdays - so please give it a try! Need a grant for your organisation or project? Your local ward committee has funds available to support local organisations and- projects. Projects need to be for the benefit of people who live in our ward - Fawdon, Coxlodge, Red House Farm, Little Grange or North Kenton. We especially want to hear if you have plans to bring local people together for enjoyment, activity or learning. Contact our ward co-ordinator Helen Hindmarch if you need information, advice or help. Tel 277 3537 or email helen.hindmarch@newcastle.gov.uk. Nursery Proposal - Jubilee Road Planning permission was given over three years ago for nine houses on the Fawdon Service Station in Jubilee Road. Because of the credit crunch, this development never got off the ground. Now a new proposal has been received for a children's nursery. We will ask the planners to give very careful consideration to parking and traffic issues on Jubilee Road.
