BUS SERVICES TO BE REVIEWED

8.26.00pm GMT Sun 21st Feb 2010

Transport operator Nexus is to launch a consultation on bus services across Newcastle.

Nexus is reviewing the routes it subsidises - around 10% of the Tyne and Wear network - to see how services can be improved.

Residents will be asked their views in the spring when a roadshow will visit communities to ask people's opinions on proposals.

Councillor Liz Langfield explained: "We have been campaigning for improvements to local bus services now for a long time.

"We have told Nexus that we want to see bus services connecting to West Denton, the city centre and our local hospitals.

"We are pleased Nexus has listened and are reviewing services."

Public consultation would begin in March 2010 through ward committees and special events, with a target date for the changes to commence by April 2011.

To find out more on Nexus' proposals go to www.nexus.org.uk/busstrategy or email bus.strategy@nexus.org.uk.

Newcastle campaigner Ron Beadle added: "I would urge every resident to have their say on the proposals in their area."
