TACKLING UNDERAGE DRINKING

8.24.00pm GMT Thu 25th Feb 2010

A group of licensed premises in Fawdon and Kenton were targeted by police and council trading standards officers in the autumn.

As a result, several bottles of alcohol were seized and an 18 year old male received an 80 fixed penalty for buying alcohol on behalf of underage youngsters.

This type of operation is repeated at regular intervals all over our area.

The powers that were granted in 2007 to prevent on-street drinking has also resulted in large quantities of alcohol being confiscated.

There is a great deal of effort going into tackling the big underage drinking problem in this area, especially in the parks, and police are taking action to deal with the problem.
