The Lib Dems are urging local residents to be extra vigilant after a spate of drain cover thefts.

Since the beginning of May, 89 drain covers have been stolen from Lemington, Westerhope, Denton and parts of Newburn Ward.

It's thought the drain covers have been stolen for their scrap value.

Councillor Mike Lynch says: "The missing covers could pose a danger to members of the public.

"I would urge anyone that has any information about the thefts to contact the police so that those responsible will be caught."
