'BLUE BINS' PROVE POPULAR

November 30, 2008 3:10 AM

The new blue recycling bins have now been introduced across most of the ward and we are pleased that most residents are finding them very easy to use.

Many people have told us how much better they are than the unpopular black box system.

Councillor Greg Stone says: "The city is continuing to significantly increase its recycling rates after being as low as 3.5% when Labour ran the council.

"Newcastle was recently named the fourth most sustainable city in the UK thanks to improvements made by the Lib Dem council on recycling and climate change strategy.

"We would like to thank all residents who participate, preventing thousands of tonnes of waste going to landfill "
