New Osborne Road food store welcomed as Jesmond eyesores are redeveloped

Lib Dem spokesman for Newcastle East Greg Stone has welcomed the granting of planning permission for a new food store on Osborne Road in Jesmond, but has warned that parking and delivery arrangements need to be closely monitored to avoid causing traffic problems in the Acorn Road area.

Greg said "The old Osborne Garage site has been an eyesore for at least a decade, but I am glad that plans to redevelop the site have now been approved. It is widely rumoured that Marks and Spencers Simply Food are being lined up as occupants and I am sure that this will be welcomed by many residents. My only concern is that the parking and delivery arrangements are somewhat tricky for this site, and I trust that suitable measures will be put in place to prevent any problems on Acorn Road or Osborne Road."

"With work expected to start shortly on the redevelopment of the much loved but increasingly unsafe and crumbling Jesmond Picture House, it is good news that two major eyesores in Jesmond will be removed and new local facilities created."
