Hundreds of local people enjoyed the first ever Lemington Festival.

The Festival marked the end of a series of celebrations to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Lemington Riverside Primary School.

The Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Councillor Mike Cookson, helped plant a tree and bury time capsules at the school to mark the centenary.

As well as marking the school's 100th birthday, the school has recently been praised in an Ofsted inspection report.

Councillor Liz Langfield, who was on the committee that organised the Festival, said: "The Festival was a brilliant day and was very well attended by hundreds of local people.

"We would like the Festival to become an annual event."
