Local eyesore removed to make way for new Children's Centre

October 27, 2009 11:04 AM

Newcastle East Lib Dem parliamentary spokesman and North Heaton councillor Greg Stone has welcomed the demolition of the High Heaton Tenants Association building to make way for the construction of a new Children's Centre for parents and under 5s.

Greg said "I know the Tenants Association was well used in the past but its heyday had long passed and it was not unexpected when it eventually closed. I am pleased that swift progress is being made on clearing the site to create an important new facility for local parents and children, and am pleased that the boarded-up building has been demolished as it was proving to be something of an eyesore.

"Together with the new Library, the forthcoming community garden for the Spinney, and new equipment in the play area, I am proud that High Heaton has seen significant investment in community facilities and regeneration of the Spinney area through the efforts of its Lib Dem councillors."
