Greg asks council to ensure key pedestrian routes are gritted

December 11, 2009 2:10 PM

With icy weather expected over the weekend, Lib Dem councillor Greg Stone has contacted the city council to ask that key pedestrian routes are gritted to ensure safety, as well as road surfaces.

Greg said "Obviously the gritting vehicles are sent out in freezing weather but I am concerned that people may be hurt in falls on icy pavements too. This is obviously particularly dangerous for older people. I was particularly concerned to hear about a recent injury sustained by a pedestrian on the footbridge between Manors and the city centre which was extremely slippery with ice but had not been gritted, and have asked for this location to be treated in future."
