Update on Jesmond Towers (formerly La Sagesse)

June 24, 2011 9:08 PM

Shepherd Offshore recently unveiled their current proposals for the development of the Jesmond Towers Estate (formerly La Sagesse School). No formal planning application has yet been submitted however and the Council's planning department have indicated that they have reservations about what is currently planned.

The proposals entail using the site primarily for housing with a mixture of detached houses, a row of terraced houses and two sets of apartments. In total 60 dwellings are proposed, comprising 28 houses and 32 apartments. The main entrance to the site would be widened to allow for two-way traffic and there would be a route through the estate for cyclists and pedestrians.

Your councillors fully appreciate how important the future of this site is to the many residents who live in the vicinity (and to other Jesmond residents). We will be monitoring developments and listening to what residents have to say.

We understand that a formal application may well be submitted within the next 6 months. If and when that happens, we will seek to arrange a public meeting, attended by planning officers, at which residents can put their views.

Further details of the Shepherd Offshore proposals and of a Council note which gives details of the planning constraints affecting the site can be found at on the links below.
