CHAOS GREETS NEW TRAFFIC LIGHTS ON GREAT NORTH ROAD
The new traffic lights on Great North Road/Regent Centre Metro/ASDA/M and S roundabout went "live" this morning. The result from all reports seems to be chaotic, with big tailbacks where none were experienced before. Your Liberal Democrats have already been onto Council officers, who are sending out engineers this over rush hour this afternoon and tomorrow with computer monitoring equipment so the phasing can be adjusted.
FULL COUNCIL
Tomorrow evening the monthly meeting of Newcastle City Council takes place. Liberal Democrats will be putting forward motions or amendments on small businesses, mental health and dogs. On the subject of which, congratulations to Gosforth-headquartered Greggs has been appointed to a new advisory board on the Prompt Payment Code, which will be tasked with helping ensure suppliers are paid on time and treated fairly. GOSFORTH TOWN MEETING
So much is happening that we are pushing ahead with organising an informal Town Meeting for the East Gosforth, West Gosforth and Parklands wards to give everybody a chance to have their say. There'll be a leaflet drop across all 3 wards when details finalised.
MELTON PARK CARE HOME
Despite large numbers of protests from residents, Newcastle City Council has given planning permission for a 67 bed care home on the old Records Centre site. But councillors are outraged that the developers have immediately come back for an expansion to 70 beds. They are sending details of the Planning Committee decision to the most immediately affected homes on Melton Park, urging further objection to this "creeping over-development" If you don't get a letter in the next few days, and would like to see it, let us know and we'll email you a copy.
REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY
As well as the event with the Lord Mayor in the centre of Newcastle, there'll be a Remembrance Sunday wreath laying and parade in Gosforth Central Park.

I am much encouraged by the Government's achievements in devolving power across the UK since 2010, with the Scotland Act 2012, with the Wales Bill, together with city deals and local growth deals in England, which have enabled local economic...
