Fines for dog fouling in Newcastle last year as high as £600

Councils cannot issue fines; the courts do, but Newcastle City Council normally gives people the opportunity to avoid being convicted and fined by opting to pay a fixed penalty out-of-court.

The number of such notices of opportunity to pay a fixed penalty for the offence of failing to remove dog faeces from designated land and the number of prosecutions last year for that offence were

The fines imposed by the magistrates' court ranged from £15 to £600 (total £1,325).
