Working for you in this time of crisis - stay at home, stay safe, and support those who are on the front line.

At the current time politics as usual is not appropriate. The utmost priority is the safety and welfare of all Newcastle's citizens and we will work with the council and partner organisations to safeguard this.
Social distancingNewcastle Liberal Democrat councillors are working from home to support the community and neighbour networks that have been established in many neighbourhoods in the wards we represent. We aim to ensure that older and vulnerable constituents receive any assistance they need at this time, whilst staying aware of the need to comply with the Government's instructions on staying at home and social distancing - like the gulls in the picture!
But we also recognise there is a need to ensure that journeys outside the home are minimised, and that vulnerable people are safeguarded. People should continue to exercise caution about offers of help from people you don't know, and particular caution about divulging bank details, PIN numbers etc.
We are aware that the council and partner organisations are working to establish a community volunteer co-ordination service, and that plans are being developed for local community volunteer hubs. We think it is important that the council's planned provision complements rather than constrains the informal neighbourhood networks that have emerged.
We recognise this situation may last for some time. We will continue to scrutinise the council's response and service delivery, and we'll press for the council's response to be delivered collaboratively with councillors and the community at neighbourhood level.
If you know of vulnerable neighbours who may be in need of support, please let us know and we will seek to identify appropriate assistance for you from either the council or local volunteer networks.
Please do all you can to stay safe and to stay at home in accordance with the Government's instructions. We owe it to those who are working hard on the front line in the NHS and key services.
Our thanks and admiration go to all those who are working to protect our city and our communities at this time.
