Sad death of former Councillor Peter Leggott
We are sad to announce that former councillor Peter Leggott has passed away after a battle with cancer.
Peter was a councillor in East Gosforth Ward where he lived. Politicians and local residents have spoken of his passion and commitment to his community, as well as his kindness and sense of humour. One resident said "He was a gentle man and a gentleman."
Paying tribute to him, Councillor Nick Cott leader of the Lib Dem Group said,
" Peter was a lovely man, with a warm heart, and a complete gentlemen. I remember him very fondly for all his work for the local community as an East Gosforth Councillor and his support to the Liberal Democrat Group on the Council and to me. Peter was a solid support and very well respected. In recent years, I grew to love his updates on Facebook about the family, of whom he was very proud. Rest in peace Peter, you will be very much missed."
His former East Gosforth Ward colleague Councillor Henry Gallagher said,
"Peter was a great help to me when I first got elected, mentoring me through those early years. He was a lovely man who cared deeply about his local community. He also had a wonderful dry sense of humour, which he sometimes used expertly in meetings that he chaired, to defuse awkward situations. But I know that the thing that made him happiest was being a grandad."
Our thoughts are with his wife Pauline and his whole family at this very sad time.
