Save our bus service on Hollywood Avenue, NE3
To : Tobyn Hughes - Managing Director of Transport North East and Director General of Nexus
Save our bus service on Hollywood Avenue, NE3
Sir
We the undersigned residents of Garden Village are deeply concerned that the frequency of our bus services has been reduced but that you are now considering scrapping it completely.
Given the existing policy framework :
* The Government's "Bus back better" national strategy which sets out the vision and opportunity to deliver better bus services for passengers across England
* Newcastle City Council's commitment to low traffic neighbourhoods
* The national moves to prioritise public over private transport
* Excessive levels of air pollution on Gosforth High Street
We believe that this is a retrograde step which you must not be allowed to happen.
We point out that at a community level, many people - particularly those without their own transport or no longer able to use it - depend on the bus service along Hollywood Avenue to connect to the rest of the bus and Metro network and to the other facilities of the city for shopping, health care and leisure. Elimination of the bus service will result in increased isolation and struggle for everyday life.
We urge you to to reverse any cuts decisions that have already been made or cease consideration of them.
