The Lib Dem-run city council has given the Woolsington Ward Committee £600,000 to spend locally over the next three years.

The Woolsington Ward Committee, which is run by three Labour Councillors, will have to use £300,000 of the cash on improving roads and pavements.

Another £112,000 will be spent on grants to local groups between now and April 2012.

The Ward Committee also has £115,000 to spend on capital projects, such as community buildings.

Focus Editor James Kenyon said: "I am pleased the city council is making this huge investment in Woolsington Ward.

"It is now up to the Woolsington Ward Committee to decide how this money is spent."
