For our Communities, for our City, for a Greener future
Newcastle Liberal Democrats
City Council Election May 2024 - Manifesto
Our great city is in a mess. Liberal Democrats believe it can have a very different future. It's time to change the way we run Newcastle
Across the city, when we talk to people on the doorsteps, we hear that Newcastle Labour's have stopped listening to residents and so don’t address your priorities. It's time to change, so that your voice is heard.
Newcastle is an incredible place to live and thrive, but we need investment in our Communities, our City and a Greener future. It’s time to change, so that Newcastle can be even better.
Liberal Democrats are the official opposition group on Newcastle City Council, the only organised opposition. Our 23 councillors work together to improve the way our city is run. We cannot bring about the necessary change overnight. But we can promise to work to mitigate, and eventually remove, the Newcastle Labour administration from control of the council.

The Liberal Democrat Vision for Newcastle
Empowerment of Communities
We fundamentally believe that the first point for a successful city is a successful local community. We believe if we help communities to help themselves we all end up winning. There are so many local groups who are really in touch what is needed locally; we need to support them to be able to do more, and where these don't yet exist, our tireless councillors and candidates will help to make our communities better.
Leadership of Place
We need a council that is focused on rebuilding our economy, attracting jobs, and providing the services we need. So many of the national issues are actually best addressed at a city level, whilst government set the boundaries, as a city the choices we make can create dramatically different outcomes. We believe we can flatten out the inequalities in our city in a way that helps it grow for everyone.
Stewardship of the Environment
The Climate Emergency is real, but so much of what is proposed looks good but doesn't make much difference and works against some of our communities' needs. We would take on the biggest sources of climate harm and systematically drive down Newcastle's Carbon Footprint in a way that works for everyone.
