COUNCILLORS REJECT ROYAL GEORGE PLAN
Parklands councillors have welcomed the news that plans to build a care home on the site of the Royal George have been thrown out.
More than 900 people objected to the proposal to demolish the pub and build a 46-bed care home for the elderly in Brunton Park.
A planning application by the developer was rejected by the city council's Development Control Committee.
Councillor David Down said: "The local Lib Dem councillors are pleased the committee rejected the application.
"However, the developer may submit an amended application."
He added: "The pub is at the heart of the local community and local residents are rightly concerned about the size of the proposed home and the increase in traffic on Brunton Park."
