DENTON WARD NEWS IN BRIEF

:: PROBLEMS AT 'THE MOUND' TO END

Anti-social behaviour that has plagued an area of Chapel House will soon be a thing of the past.

The Mound - an area of green open space at Barbondale Lonnen - has been the target for a number of young people.

Hopefully this problem should now disappear because the area is going to become part of the new Knoplaw Primary School.

The school wants to make much better use of the open area around its new buildings and the mound will be used by the school children.

Councillor Graham Middleton said: "The Mound has caused a lot of grief for local residents and the ward councillors in the past.

"This is a great idea by the school to take the area into the school's boundary. This should also improve the quality of life for people living in the area."

:: NEW CAR PARK TO BE CREATED

Work is expected to start soon to turn the disused tennis courts at Westerhope Park into a car park.

This will improve road safety and get rid of the nuisance caused by cars using the park for bowling.

This scheme is a much simpler and cheaper design and more affordable than the original plan.

Councillor Sharon Middleton said: "This scheme will make life better for local residents and for users of the bowling club.

"Once the car park is finished, the plan is to see what else we can do to improve the rest of the park."

:: DENTON CHARTER PLAN

The first-ever Neighbourhood Charter for Denton Ward is being drawn up.

The aim of charter is to deliver the services residents want locally.

This includes a bigger say over health, housing, employment, education and policing.
