GATING PLANS APPROVED

26 May 2009

Proposals to allow gating in Newcastle have been agreed by the Liberal Democrat-run city council.

Under Labour it had not been possible to get a legal gating order.

Woolsington Ward Focus Editor James Kenyon said: "Gating is never an ideal solution but sometimes it is necessary.

"There are places in Woolsington, such as Buxton Green and Haggerston Crescent where residents have wanted gating.

"Now, thanks to the Liberal Democrat council, this is possible."

James recently brought Fiona Hall, Newcastle's Lib Dem Member of the European Parliament, to Haggerston Crescent to look at the possibility of gating to reduce anti-social behaviour in the area.
