HUNDREDS JOIN GP CAMPAIGN

15 Jan 2008

Hundreds of people have joined the Liberal Democrat campaign to bring a doctor's surgery back to Lemington.

More than 500 local residents have already signed the petition for a local surgery and more are expected to sign up as the campaign progresses.

Lawrence Hunter, Joanne Park and Liz Langfield are working closely with Newcastle North Campaigner Ron Beadle to improve health services locally.

Lemington does not have a GP's surgery and the nearest are at Newburn, Chapel House and Denton Burn.

Newcastle North Campaigner Ron Beadle says: "Many local people, including the managing director of the local chemists, agree with us that Lemington needs a doctor's surgery

"The Newcastle Primary Care Trust can bid for one of 100 new GP surgeries being created nationally and we are urging them to do so."
