LIB DEM LEADER NICK CLEGG VISITS NEWCASTLE
Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg was in Newcastle to see at first hand the good work the city council is doing.
He toured the first new council homes being built in Newcastle in more than 30 years
Joined by leader of Newcastle City Council John Shipley, Nick toured the site with the site manager.
Nick was then introduced to two young apprentices - Peter Kelly and Johnny Hoyle - who are working on the site and joined them in laying bricks for the new houses.
He then climbed on to the roof of one of the houses they are working on to see the solar panels that are being installed on the new properties.
Later, Nick toured The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and met with Newcastle's Lib Dem MEP Fiona Hall and senior Liberal Democrat campaigners, including Newcastle North's Ron Beadle and Newcastle East's Greg Stone.
Nick told the local press: "We can show the reality is that when we get into power we do really good things.
"It is a Lib Dem council that has kick-started an affordable housing programme for the first time in 30 years.
"When people start despairing of the Government, it is important they know there is another way forward.
"For me, the issue here is to vote for the party that will do the best for you and your family."
