15 Oct 2009

Liberal Democrat Leader, Nick Clegg, recently visited Newcastle, and attended a public meeting held in the Civic Hall, Irton Street, Gosforth, with over 150 residents present.

Mr Clegg was here as part of his UK-wide tour in the run up to next year's General Election. Liberal Democrats are hoping that a Lib Dem MP can be elected following a huge European election boost, with Lib Dems topping the poll in Newcastle for the first time in a national election and achieving one of the party's best result in the country.

Gareth Kane, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Newcastle Central, said: "The Liberal Democrats have a good record of action in Newcastle, having controlled the Council for five years.

"Many voters are now saying that they will be voting for the Lib Dems in the forthcoming General Election."
