MINISTER SEES CRIME FIGHTING WORK

6 Jan 2010

Home Secretary Alan Johnson visited Denton to see how police, the council and local people are tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.

Residents told him what worked and what didn't and the Home Secretary was very impressed with the honesty of the views expressed.

His visit follows on from Denton Ward being awarded Exemplar status by the Home Office for the success of the work in tackling community safety issues.

Councillor Peter Arnold said: "Residents made it very clear to the Home Secretary that it's teamwork that gets results here in Denton.

"They told him that a lot of progress has been made in reducing crime and anti-social behaviour, but that there's still a lot to do.

"In particular, they stressed the importance of support for families and children to help build strong and successful communities."
