NAVY JOIN IN WITH DENE CLEAN UP

11 Sep 2008

The Lib Dems have joined the Royal Navy to help clean up and restore Sugley Dene.

Some 25 volunteers from HMS Dauntless - Newcastle's adopted ship - helped renovate the path that runs through the Dene, repaired boardwalks, built steps and cleared out rubbish from the ancient woodland.

Councillors Lawrence Hunter and Liz Langfield joined the Lord Mayor for the day-long event, which also saw council staff, horticultural students, Princes Trust and local people helping out.

Councillor Liz Langfield says: "It was a great day and our thanks goes to the crew from HMS Dauntless and everyone else that helped out.

"The Dene is a beautiful and valuable part of our heritage and this work will make it easier for people to enjoy the woodland."
