NEWCASTLE SECOND IN 'PRIDE' POLL

5 Oct 2009

Newcastle has come second in a poll to find the city who's residents take the most pride in where they live.

York topped the poll, with 86%, closely followed by Newcastle (78%) and Edinburgh (74%).

All of the top six cities in the survey by YouGov are Liberal Democrat controlled. Other Lib Dem councils listed include Hull, Cardiff, Swansea and Bristol.

The pollster questioned more than 2,000 people across the country for The Co-operative, asking them about a range of aspects of local pride.

Asked to rate the most respected profession, the respondents listed medical staff first (41%), followed by firefighters and soldiers.

Traffic wardens, politicians and call centre staff topped the "least respected" list, with investment bankers also finding themselves near the top of this particular poll.

Only Fools And Horses, Fawlty Towers and Blackadder were identified as the top TV shows.
