Parking crackdown

Double yellow lines have been painted on High Row and in part of Bell's Close to prevent inconsiderate parking.

Measures are also being taken on Coombe Drive where parking on street corners is a problem.

Action on weeds

The Lib Dems have asked for the weed killing programme to be stepped up after recent weather has seen an excess of weeds locally. Councillors have been assured this work will be carried out.

Plans unveiled to transform schools

Multi-million pound plans to transform some of Newcastle's most run-down schools have been unveiled.

Around 36 of the city's primary schools will we rebuilt or refurbished over 14 years if the Government gives the plan its approval.

Councillor Joanne Park says: "These plans are good news for parents, pupils and teachers and should see many schools refurbished or rebuilt."

Working closely with the police

Lemington's Lib Dem councillors are working with the local police to tackle anti-social behaviour in Linnel Drive.

Several residents have contacted the Lib Dem team recently about the problems.

Councillor Liz Langfield explains: "The police have agreed to step up patrols and will be writing to all residents in the area telling them how to report effectively any anti-social behaviour.

"We are also working on a longer term solution to provide space for young people to play football where they won't cause problems for neighbours."

Ward committee grants revealed

The Lib Dem ward committee has awarded the Lemington Community Association a £750 grant to help towards a day trip for young people and adults to Flamingo Land this summer. The committee also approved a £350 grant to the police towards the costs of cycle equipment for officers to patrol on bikes locally.
