NEWTON ROAD POST OFFICE LATEST

30 Nov 2008

Many residents continue to ask us about the future of the post office on Newton Road after the previous postmaster decided to close his business.

The post office is NOT included in the programme of closures which has unfortunately seen many branches close in the Newcastle East constituency.

Labour MP Nick Brown voted in favour of the closure plans.

The Newton Road premises is owned by the city council and we understand that a tenancy application has been made to reopen the Post Office under a new postmaster, but that this is taking some time to sort out.

Councillor Greg Stone says: "We appreciate that it is frustrating for residents that the office remains closed.

"Thank you to all those who responded to our petition on this issue but rest assured we will write to the Post Office asking for progress to be made in the near future."
