OUSEBURN BRIDGES TO BE REPLACED

25 May 2009

The council is to carry out work to replace two bridges over the Ouseburn.

The access bridge to the Three Mile allotments will be replaced and raised.

The bridge adjacent to the Gosforth golf course car park is to be replaced and widened.

Councillor Diane Packham says: "We expect the work should be completed by the end of the year.

"Engineers say the work should lessen flooding risk for Burnside Road, Fencer Court and Whitebridge Park."

A newsletter will be circulated to all homes close to the Ouseburn and a drop-in public session will be held in early July.

These will tell residents about the bid for grants to allow householders to undertake flood defence work on their homes and of the engineering survey work being undertaken to improve the surface water drainage on Brunton Park.
