SCHOOL CELEBRATES A-LEVEL RESULTS
Local school All Saints College is celebrating another set of remarkable A-level results.
It was only two years ago that the school in West Denton sent its first student to university - now 25 are going.
In recent years All Saints has seen a dramatic rise in the numbers of pupils staying on for the sixth form.
In 2002 there were only four students in the sixth form. Now there are more than 100.
Provisional figures show that across A-level passes rose by 0.9% to 96.5% this year, with the number of A to C grades also up.
Councillor Pat Hillicks says: "Newcastle has once again recorded some excellent A-level results.
"Newcastle's young people have every reason to be proud of their excellent achievements this year and it shows what great improvements our schools have made in the city in recent years.
"There are now families in Newcastle who are celebrating a child being accepted into university, who have not only never seen a family member do this, but to whom the very idea would once have been unthinkable.
"Congratulations to them all."
